Pride Alliance is a multi-focus GLBTQIA (gay, genderqueer, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, ally, asexual) group open to all Wash U students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Our goals are to advocate GLBTQIA-friendly public policies through activism and greater awareness, to educate the WU community about GLBTQIA issues, and to build a supportive social network for GLBTQIA students. Appeal for Keith Boykin Successful!
On Tuesday night, Pride Alliance, the Association of Black Students, and X-Magazine successfully appealed for $9,500 to bring Keith Boykin to speak at WashU.
Mr. Boykin has written extensively on the intersection of race and sexuality. He is currently a TV Host for BET, and has previously served as an assistant to President Clinton. For more information, visit his website:

Last GBM!!!
Hey Everyone,
Thank you to everyone who came out to Gayla last night! It was a huge success.
This Wednesday, April 22nd, is our last general body meeting!!! It is in the Pride Suite (3rd floor of the Women's Building) at 8.
We will be having elections for new exec members, saying goodbye to departing exec, eating Subway, and having a end of the year celebration.

Gaypril is packed!
Hey Pride!
Gaypril (April) has finally arrived and Pride has some great events coming up that you don't want to miss.
1.) Our next general body meeting will be this Wednesday, April 8th, in the DUC room 234. We will be watching part of a "Transgeneration" episode (a documentary about transgender college students) and having a brief discussion afterward.
2.) Gayla is on April 18th, from 9-12 in Holmes Lounge. The theme this year is Le Chocolat. You can't miss this one.
3.) Controversy and Coffee's monthly discussion will be centered around gay marriage. Be there April 14th at 7 in DUC 276 to share your opinion.
4.)Pride is participating in a 6v6 soccer tourament. If you are interested, please email the Pride account: pridewu@gmail.com
5.) The Episcopal Campus Ministry just became an Oasis Congregation (this basically means they are super LGBT friendly)! Yay!
6.) We are looking for new exec members for next semester. If you are interested in running, email the Pride account: pridewu@gmail.com

Retreat & More!
Hey Pridesters!
If you have not signed up for Destination Q, our first annual queer retreat, do it today! It will be a create opportunity to get involved in the community, strengthen the bonds between friends, and make new ones. Email the pride account if you need a registration form and we can get one to you asap.
Also, this Wednesday we will be having a general body meeting in Mudd Multipurpose room at 8 PM. S.A.R.A.H. will be doing a safing session. You don't want to miss it!

Spring is Here, Let's Go Queer
Hope everybody had a great Spring Break. Pride has piles of programming going on this week:
1) St. Louis QFest - "Between Love and Goodbye," 7pm Mon. March 16 @ the Tivoli: Join members of Pride Alliance tomorrow as we attend a screening of "Between Love and Goodbye" (trailer: http://lovegoodbye.com/), a part of the St. Louis LGBTQ Film Festival. Meet outside the Tivoli at 6:45, and make sure you give your ticket stub to an Exec member--Pride will subsidize you!
2) Pride Alliance Panel on LGBT Rights, 7-9pm Wed. March 18 in Seigle 204: Know your rights! Pride will be hosting a panel from 7-8 with members of the MO gay caucus speaking on LGBT rights, and PROMO will be doing a Lobby Day training from 8 to 9. Queer Retreat Registration Form
Pride Alliance will be having its first annual 24-hour queer retreat, Destination Q, from 6pm to 6pm on March 27-28 at Kiwanis Camp Wyman in Eureka, MO.
Attached is the registration form. Because space at the retreat will be limited, we will be accepting registration forms on a first-come, first-serve basis. We recommend that you turn in your form as soon as possible to make sure you get a slot!
Registration requires a $15 down-payment that will be given back to you at the retreat, but forms turned into the Pride mailbox on the second floor of SU in the DUC by noon tomorrow (Friday March 6, 2009) can be submitted with only a $10 deposit. Hurry up and turn in your registration form--you don't wanna miss out on this great opportunity to learn more about yourself and make lasting new friendships.

Drag Show & More!
We have a plethora of amazing events coming up this month and next. So, put these on your calendar and we'll see you there.
1.) DRAG SHOW THIS FRIDAY! 7-9 in the Gargoyle. The ticket prices are $3 for students and $5 for non-students, which we will be selling in the DUC on Tuesday and Thursday and in Mallinkrodt Wednesday and Friday from 11-1. We will also be selling tickets at the door the night of the show. You can pay with cash or your campus card.
2.)Q-Fest, a film festival that specializes in the "art of contemporary gay cinema" is coming to the Tivoli Theatre March 15-18. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for everyone else.
3.) The College Democrats are bringing Roy Zimmerman, a comic musician that sings politically themed songs, to Wash U. He'll be playing in the Gargoyle on Thursday night at 10 PM. Click here for the Facebook event. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=52954384892&ref=ts

GBM on LGBT Housing Issues
Come on out and join us at our GBM this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in Ursa's Fireside. The topic is LGBT housing at WashU, and we'll be sharing stories with representatives from Residential Life about issues related to campus housing for LGBTQIA members of the WU community. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard.
We'll also be selling tickets at the GBM for our 3rd Annual Drag Show on Friday February 27th, so make sure to bring $3 or your campus card. You won't wanna miss this show...

Things to look out for
Hey Pride,
Thanks to everyone who attended our first general body meeting last Wednesday. We discussed our upcoming events for the semester, announced our new years resolutions, and talked about possible political changes to come with a new president in office.
Here are some things to put on your calenders:
1. The regional LGBT conference (MBLTGTACC) is being held at Indiana University this year during the weekend of Valentine's Day (February 13-15th). There is limited space so if you are interested in going, please send us an e-mail by this Friday January 30th. Slots will be filled first come first served. The registration fee is $60 which you will pay up front and then will be returned to you after you attend the conference. If you are not able to pay the $60 fee up front, let us know and we will discuss other options.
2. Our next GBM will be February 4th in Ursa's. See you there!

Well the semester is underway and after our first GBM yesterday, things are already off to a great start. Our fabulous new Pride Exec board has lots of exciting ideas for the upcoming three months, so you can rest assured that we'll be working hard to make this one of Pride's best semesters yet.
The dates for our three main events for the semester have all been booked and our committees are hard at work putting them together , so be sure to mark your calendar for the following days:
-Friday February 27th - 3rd Annual Drag Show, 7:00p.m. at the Gargoyle
-Friday March 27th-Saturday March 28th - Pride Alliance Queer Retreat, 6:00 p.m.-6:00p.m. at Camp Wyman
-Saturday April 18th - 6th Annual Gayla Dance, time and location TBD
