Awareness Week is Coming Up!

Thanks to everyone who came to our first general body meeting on September 12th! It was great to see such a large turnout. We'll be letting you know when the next GBM is, but for now, I wanted to let you know that...

GLBTQIA Awareness Week (October 5 - 13) is approaching! We have a lot of great events planned, so mark your calendars:

Friday, October 5: Night Out at the City Museum with SLU
When: 7:15 PM - 12 AM
Where: meet at the Clocktower at 7:15 PM
Join members of Wash U's Pride Alliance and Saint Louis University's Rainbow Alliance for a night at the city museum. The bus will be leaving from the clocktower at 7:15, so bring your $6 and be prepared to have a blast!

Sunday, October 7: Underpass Painting and Guerrilla Flyering
When: 1 PM
Where: the underpass
Help us paint the underpass and flyer campus to raise awareness about GLBTQIA issues. And oh yeah: free food!

Monday, October 8: How Do We Make Wash U a Safe Zone?
When: 8:30 - 9:30 PM
Where: May Auditorium (Simon Hall, the business school)
Join students, staff, and faculty from all over campus for a conversation about GLBTQIA issues at Washington University. How can we make Wash. U. the best possible environment for everyone?

Tuesday, October 9: Discussion on Multicultural GLBT Relationships (co-sponsored with MIXED)
When: 8:30 PM
Where: Ursa's Fireside
An open-ended discussion on Mixed Heritage People, Interracial Relationships, and Transracial Adoptions in the GLBT Community. Possible discussions points include discrimination, representation in the media, and the role both communties play.

Wednesday, October 10: Safe Zones Info Session
When: 5-7 PM
Where: OSA Conference Room, basement of the Women's Building
Interested in learning about the organization Safe Zones? Want to know how you can lead workshops on GLBTQIA issues? Then check out the Safe Zones information session!

Wednesday, October 10: GLBTQIA Career Planning (with the Career Center)
When: 7-9 PM
Where: Brown Lounge (Brown School of Social Work)
A panel discussion on being a GLBTQIA person in the work world. Topics to be discussed include presenting a "queer resume" and finding GLBTQIA workplaces. Juniors and seniors strongly encouraged to attend!

Thursday, October 11: National Coming Out Day Social!
When 7 PM - 1 AM
Where: Ursa's Fireside
Celebrate National Coming Out Day with Pride! (get it?) AJ Brockelman, Executive Director of PROMO, Missouri's GLBT Advocacy group, will be there to talk about his organization's mission. Share your own story about coming out as a GLBTQIA person or ally, and then party it up with us.

Saturday, October 13: "I'm Still the Same" (part of Parent's Weekend)
When: 12- 1 PM
Where: Friedman Lounge in Wohl Center
An interactive discussion and presentation on coming out at college, GLBTQIA life on campus, and being the parent of a GLBTQIA student. ALL members of ALL types of families are welcome.
